It is with a very heavy heart that I write to share some terribly sad news.  Earlier this week, our founder and beloved Director of Coaching, Michel Henry (Coach Henry as we all know him) passed away unexpectedly.  There is no easy way to share news like this, but NSU is a family as much as it is a fabulous soccer program and I felt it was important to notify all of you.  Coach Henry committed his life to sharing his love of soccer, and his dream was to teach kids the joy of the game.  He lived that dream and did it as well as anyone could have and always made fun and sportsmanship the top priorities.  Attached is a picture of Coach Henry on the fields in September 2014.

Information on celebrating Coach Henry’s life will be shared via email in the coming days once details have been arranged.  If you would like to share a memory, a funny story, or condolences right away please do so at http://www.clubhenry.com/celebration.

The fall soccer season will continue as planned.  Specific details will obviously need to be worked out and information will follow later in the week. As of now we can share the following:

  • Mini-camp is canceled.
  • Next Saturday's registration at Dicks Sporting Goods will occur as planned.
  • Coach Henry’s nephew Gaetan Le Coguic (known to kids and parents at Coach James) will oversee and supervise the young kids (Cubs and In Town) programs. There is a broad base of parent volunteers that make this program successful year in and year out and we will need your support this fall more than ever.
  • As for the Rec program and Travel Light program, those will also occur but will require more detailed planning. Please stay tuned.

As additional details about the season are confirmed they will be shared via the http://www.clubhenry.com site and on social media and email.  The board is committed to ensuring Nashville Soccer United not only continues, but also that it grows as it continues to teach the game of soccer.  Coach Henry has laid a terrific foundation and there is growing demand for NSU programs.  In fact, this fall may turn out to have more signups than any year in the program’s history.  Please know that the best way to honor Coach Henry’s legacy is to play, share, and enjoy the game he loved so much.  And, we will certainly need your help and we will have more information on how you can assist later in the week.

Please forward this email as not all NSU families or NSU alumni families may be on the distribution list.

On behalf of the board and the coaches, families, and players we send our condolences to his immediate family and hope you will, too.

Coach Henry: we love you and we will never forget you. Thank you for sharing your dream with us.

Chris Reynolds
NSU Board President
